I've put the presentation up at http://craigbuchek.com/presentations/2011-08-08/writing_better_rails -- it's just a wiki page, but it's what I used as the basis for the presentation, other than showing actual code from my current project.

I'm working to put the audio up as well.

Enjoy,
Craig

I found a calendar plugin, but I don't know that that will help. That'd just require that we add a calendar event and a blog entry, and we're struggling to just add the blog entry.

Our <a href="http://stlruby.org/about" rel="nofollow">About page</a> says that we meet the 2nd Monday of every month. We've been quite consistent about sticking to that schedule.

We'll try the calendar and see if that helps.

So, when are you going to add a calendar, page or similar item that positively states that you meet every month on the 2nd Monday?

I'm not the only one that comes here and wonders "are they meeting this month".

Hi Bob,

Our meetings are definitely open to newcomers. We have meetings the 2nd Monday of every month, so you just missed the one this week. Keep an eye on this web site (or its RSS feed) and/or the <a href="http://groups.google.com/group/stlruby" rel="nofollow">Google Group</a> for more details.

I am interested in learning more about Ruby and wanted to know when your next meeting will take place. And if your group accepts newcomers?
Thank you
Bob

Everyone is invited to Don Ellis' presentation on Homebrew Wednesday nite at SLUUG's (St. L. UNIX Users' Group) general mtng. This will be a general introduction to a package manager for Mac OS X machines. Homebrew is said to be a compelling alternative to MacPorts and Fink. The Homebrew core and all the formulae are written in Ruby, so it could be easy to add stuff.

Brittni Lombardo, a recruiter from SyllogisTeks, came to tell us about a Rails position she has at a local company. Here are the details:

2 Rails Developer positions open (3-5 years exp) 6 month contract with the potential to grow to 12 months. Contractor will be working front end RAILS for a new site, also revamping ordering system. Will be working with back end JAVA users (currently using Restful Web Services). Client is open to seeing candidates with a interest in learning RAILS. Client is highly interested in seeing candidates who have worked projects in RAILS (professional exp). Client would prefer strong background in HTML and CSS.

Contact Brittni directly at 636-736-2170 (and be sure to tell her you saw this on the STLRuby web site).
